Mullan BUILD Project
Missoula County and the City of Missoula combined efforts to apply for a Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant to make infrastructure improvements in the Sxwtpqyen Area, which is generally the Mullan Road area west of Reserve Street and south of Broadway. The project was awarded $13 million in federal funds for infrastructure installation, including installing water and sewer utility infrastructure and road and trail construction, which was coupled with $8 million of local funding from the City and County to support this first phase of the Mullan BUILD project construction. The network of streets planned for the area will be built to improve connectivity and provide access to current and future homes and businesses. The BUILD project will ultimately play an integral role in how Missoula grows. For project details and background information, visit www.mullanbuild.com.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES:
MARY JANE BOULEVARD
Seeding for landscaping in the roundabout medians will take place this week. Trails will be paved at the end of May. There will be a brief closure on Mary Jane Boulevard between Mullan Road and Melrose Place from May 30 – June 2. Detour routes will be indicated with signs.
Crews also remain at the north end of Mary Jane Boulevard near Broadway and Flynn Lane to complete seeding and striping. Trails will be paved at the end of May.
ENGLAND BOULEVARD
The paving is complete on England Boulevard. This week, striping and seeding will occur. Beginning Friday, May 26 (Memorial Day weekend), England Boulevard between Flynn Lane and George Elmer Drive will be open to drivers.
GEORGE ELMER DRIVE
The bike path and final roundabout work are taking place on the south end of George Elmer Drive near Mullan Road. Paving in this area is complete. Curb and Median work will start this week, and continue into next. Luminaires installation continues this week. Landscaping, drainage improvements and curb will finish up work in this area.
FLYNN LANE
Work is completed at the Flynn Lane and Mullan Road intersection. Drivers may notice crews finalizing shoulder dirt work.
OVERALL PROJECT
Traffic control will be present, and drivers may experience delays. Delays of up to 10 to 15 minutes can be anticipated when traveling throughout the project area from March to June, weather dependent.
Crews anticipate completing this roadwork by the first week of June, weather and material dependent.
The Montana Department of Transportation's Broadway and Mary Jane Boulevard intersection signal work began in mid-April and will be wrapped up this summer, weather permitting. There will be no road closures/detours throughout construction. However, traffic control will be present, and drivers will likely be limited to one lane for certain periods. In addition, the Montana Department of Transportation will conduct pavement preservation operations on West Broadway, also known as Old Hwy 10 (US 10), from the intersection of West Broadway and US Highway 93 (US 93), near Love’s Truck Stop to the Reserve Street overpass, north of Costco. Construction began on April 24, 2023, and will continue for approximately 10 weeks.
OTHER INFORMATION:
Roundabouts move traffic efficiently. As a reminder, please slow down, yield, and look left when approaching the roundabout. Drivers within the roundabout have the right of way. Once clear, enter the roundabout. Prior to exiting, put your blinker on to indicate to other drivers where you intend to exit the roundabout. The idea is that movement occurs continually through the roundabout to keep traffic flowing.
