The Operations Division staffs five stations 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week. Each station houses an engine company staffed by a minimum of three firefighters (a captain, an engineer and a tailboard firefighter). Stations No. 3 and No. 4 also house one cross-staffed ladder truck each.
The Missoula Fire Department dispatches three engine companies, a truck company, and a Battalion Chief to all structure fires in the city limits. Operations personnel are assigned to four separate battalions (A, B, C, D). Each battalion or shift is commanded by a Battalion Chief.
