Storm Debris Management
Thank you to the thousands of residents who’ve already transported their debris to the drop sites! This helps us considerably as we work to clear debris from public spaces.
If you’ve previously visited a drop site, please complete the Residential Storm Damage Debris Affidavit to help City and County governments qualify for federal storm recovery assistance. You only need to complete the form once.
As we move forward with storm recovery:
- We encourage residents to continue to take storm debris to Garden City Compost or one of the residential drop sites.
- City Street Maintenance crews are collecting storm debris from the right-of-way, focusing on clearing primary streets/fire routes, sight obstructions, alleys, bike lanes, and sidewalks.
- Crews will collect residential storm debris from parking lanes and boulevards over the next four to six weeks as City Parks and Recreation crews clear damaged trees.
City crews will pick up storm vegetation debris ONLY (trees and limbs shorter than 6 feet long). They will not pick up yard waste, like grass clippings, leaf piles, or debris piles that contain shingles or other trash from the storm. The City does not have the resources to pick up additional trash. Please help us during this storm recovery by following these guidelines.
Crews will move through all of Missoula’s neighborhoods, but because the volume of tree debris differs among neighborhoods, it is not possible to estimate how long each area will take. The entire operation is estimated to take about four to six weeks. Check the City-County Office of Emergency Management website at missoula.co/storm on Fridays for the planned pick-up area for the coming week.
To report a downed tree or blocked street or alley, fill out the Tree Debris Removal Form.
Debris drop-off sites:
- Garden City Compost (1125 Clark Fork Lane, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sunday)—accepting commercial and residential storm vegetation debris
- Larchmont triangle (Post Siding Road and Fort Missoula Road)—residential storm vegetation debris only
- Northside City Lot (intersection of Rodgers and Shakespeare streets, off of N. Scott Street)—residential storm vegetation debris only
