City continues urban forestry safety initiative to address summer storm damage

Forestry contractors deployed throughout the city starting week of Nov. 18

The City of Missoula is continuing its largest-ever urban forestry initiative to address extensive tree damage caused by hurricane-force winds on July 24, 2024. Thousands of city-owned trees in the public right-of-way were severely damaged, creating significant safety hazards that require immediate action. Forestry crews will begin working citywide the week of November 18, 2024, to mitigate these risks and protect public safety.

Assessment teams have identified approximately 5,200 city-owned trees with hazardous hanging limbs or broken branches, and around 430 trees that must be removed due to severe structural damage. This critical tree work will be done at no cost to adjacent property owners. Please visit www.missoulaparks.org/storm for more information.
