Water Main Project on Ronald & Keith Aves. Begins Week of March 24
Dear University District Neighbors,
The City of Missoula's Public Works & Mobility Department is scheduled to begin a water main replacement project in your area the week of March 24, 2025, with completion expected around June 30. The project includes work on Ronald Ave. from E. Beckwith Ave. to University Ave. and Keith Ave. from just east of S. Higgins Ave. to east of Gerald Ave.
There will be street closures and detours as the contractor completes the work. Detour maps will be provided on the City’s website at www.ci.missoula.mt.us/2668/Water-Projects once they are available. Please drive slowly and cautiously through the neighborhood detour routes. Also note that some sidewalks and crosswalks may be closed during construction.
This project replaces approximately 1,500 linear feet of Kalmein water main that was originally installed between 1926 and 1929. Work also includes installation of a new fire hydrant and replacement of a few others, providing improved fire protection for adjacent properties.
These sections of water main were prioritized for replacement due to their age and material type, which make them susceptible to leakage. In addition, replacing old pipe that is prone to leaks improves the water system and reduces the amount of electricity needed to pump water that never makes it to water customers.
The contractor for the project is Knife River.
All project dates are subject to change due to inclement weather conditions or other unforeseeable circumstances.
Additional information, a project area map, and detour maps are posted on the City website at www.ci.missoula.mt.us/2668/Water-Projects. Project updates will be posted to this web page if necessary.
