Missoula’s new Unified Development Code (UDC) and zoning map have been adopted to better align our development rules with Our Missoula 2045 and community priorities—supporting housing choice, neighborhood compatibility, economic vitality, climate goals, and responsible growth. A heartfelt thank you to the many community members and organizations that supported and engaged with this substantial multi-year effort.
Now our focus shifts from adoption to implementation—making sure the new rules are clear, accessible, and easy to use.
What's Next?
- Final code and map: City staff are updating the UDC and zoning map to reflect the amendments approved during adoption. Final versions will be available on Engage Missoula and the CPDI website by March 4.
- Guidance and support resources: We’ll publish plain-language guides, FAQs, and other tools as they’re finalized—posted on Engage Missoula and the CPDI website.
- Updated forms and online tools: Expect updates to applications, checklists, and online references to support a predictable and consistent process.
- Trainings and office hours: We’ll host opportunities to learn the new code and ask questions—details coming soon.
- Early implementation focus: clarity, consistency, and transparency. We’ll track common questions and publish additional FAQs and guides as needed.
- Code refinement: Targeted refinements may happen at scheduled intervals, based on what we learn as the code is applied.
