The City of Missoula was notified that as of September 1, 1999, we have been upgraded to a Class 3 Rating, up from a Class 4 Rating by the Insurance Services Office (ISO). The classification is only based on businesses and residences located within the City limits. This rating is determined by ISO by evaluating water supply, the fire department, and the category of receiving and handling of alarms (through the 9-1-1 Center). Outdoor burning begins on March 1st and usually runs through August 31st unless conditions determine otherwise. Missoula City residents must have one acre of land to obtain a burn permit. Burn permits will cost $5 this year and can be obtained on-line at www.burnpermits.mt.gov or at the City-County Health Dept. at 301 W. Alder during normal business hours.Fire Department

Missoula Fire Department does not have a drop-box for any of these items.
Missoula Police Department does accept expired prescriptions in a drop box located outside their offices at City Hall.
For needles and "sharps", we recommend contacting your local trash collector to schedule a pick-up. You can also call a local hospital or pharmacy to ask if they accept them. If you find an improperly disposed sharp, the Missoula Aid Alliance can help; contact their hotline at 406-493-2502 and they will follow-up.
