Garden City Compost

General Information:

The City of Missoula has purchased EKO Compost. Under City management, the compost facility will continue to accept green waste from the public and will continue selling bulk compost. 

Under City management, the compost facility will no longer sell bagged compost, deliver compost, or make specialty products such as potting soil. This may change after the transition period. You can contact a local landscaping company for delivery and spreading of compost or topsoil.

Season and HOURS:

The compost facility is open March 1st through November 30th for the general public to drop off green waste and purchase compost, within NEW hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Compost and Topsoil are only loaded until 4 p.m. daily. The facility is closed on all legal holidays. 

Special accommodations will be made for commercial operations needing to drop off green waste outside of the general public drop-off season.

Prohibited materials include:

  • Wood waste over 12 inches in diameter and more than 6 feet in length
  • Construction debris
  • Plastics of any kind
  • Metal of any kind
  • Garbage of any kind
  • Painted or treated wood
  • Rocks, gravel or concrete
  • Hay or straw
  • Pallets


Processing fee schedule for green waste per load

Chipped wood waste – per 10 cubic yards  -   $7.00
Sawdust - any amount                              -   No Cost

Wood, Brush or Green Waste

Pick-up Truck - $7.00
Small trailer 8 foot or less - $7.00
Large trailer 8 foot or greater - $15.00
Dump truck - $25.00
Semi - trailer - $50.00

Compost purchasing (only loaded until 4 p.m. daily)

$26 per cubic yard
 $22 per 500 cubic yards
$20 per 1000 cubic yards
 Need only a small amount of compost? Bring your own 5 gallon bucket and fill it for $3.00.

Topsoil purchasing (only loaded until 4 p.m. daily)

$40 per cubic yard (WHEN AVAILABLE)

Food Waste:

Garden City Compost does accept food waste for $7 a load of any quantity. No meat, grease, or garbage.

To set up an account, you will need to fill out a Garden City Credit Application and mail it to:

Or drop it off at the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 1100 Clark Fork Ln. Office hours for the Wastewater Division are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Find us at 1125 Clark Fork Ln. From Reserve St., turn left at the light at Mullan Rd. and Clark Fork Ln., head towards Walmart. Continue on Clark Fork Ln. to the end of the road. Turn right, into the compost facility.
