Vehicle Permitting Program
Overview
The Missoula City Council adopted an ordinance to govern camping in public spaces. Chapter 12.60 of the Missoula Municipal Code contains the full text of the law. This page is a summary of the requirements for camping in a vehicle. The links at the bottom of this page have additional resources for those who are seeking shelter.
Camping in a vehicle requires a permit from the City. To obtain a permit, park in the place you select, then call 406-552-6080. Describe in your message where your vehicle is parked. A Code Compliance staff member will visit your site. If it meets the requirements, you will receive a permit that is good for 30 days and renewable. For full details about the Vehicle Permitting Program, see the brochure.
