Updates will continue to be provided as the project progresses. If you have questions, please email Becca at Becca@bigskypublicrelations.com. _____________
The week of March 20, the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with the City of Missoula, and Tetra Tech will be completing infiltration borings (a drilling technique used to determine soil drainage characteristics for future construction). This work will take place on Russell Street between Dakota Street and Mount Avenue, and on West Broadway Street between Toole Avenue and Mullan Road. Work will occur from the hours of approximately 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, and traffic control will be removed at the end of each day. All activities will take between five and eight days and will wrap up by the end of March, weather dependent.
The majority of the borings will occur outside of the travel lanes, however some will be located partially in travel or turning lanes. Traffic control will be in place for the duration of the drilling, and drivers should anticipate five to ten minutes of delay when traveling throughout the area. Alternate routes are recommended to limit commuting disruptions.
This Russell Corridor project will complete the final design of the preferred alternative that was selected in the Environmental Impact Statement. Details within the proposed alternative, including boulevards, added bike lanes, crosswalks and sidewalks, will be solidified. Construction in this corridor will not occur for at least three to five years as funding is acquired and a design is finalized.
The approved design for this section of Russell St. is shown on pages 65-66 of MDT's Final EIS Document, and design plan view sheets are shown on pages 105-110. Further information is available on MDT's project website.
Scott St.—Cooley St. to Charlo St.—Closed to Through Traffic July 15 – 19 for Utility Work
Scott St. between Cooley and Charlo streets will be closed to through traffic from July 15 to 19 to allow for utility work for the Scott St.–Ravara housing project. Traffic will be detoured down Dickens St. during this time. See link to the project area and detour map below.
Please note that contractors on the Turner-Worden Sidewalk Project will still be working along Turner St. during this time as well.
Drivers should allow a little extra travel time or plan an alternate travel route, if possible. We remind everyone to drive slowly and cautiously around the construction area and along the detour route.
